One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Vegas, Baby!

Vegas, Baby!

In case I haven't mentioned it before, I love my job. And on of my favorite things about it is that I spend all year writing software, and then every August I get to come to Las Vegas and see my software in action. For the next twelve days I am living at Aria and spending all of my time cycling between Aria, Vdara, and Bellagio playing my small part in helping to produce the single greatest luxury travel conference in the world, Virtuoso Travel Week. I flew out early this morning, and today for the very first time the Time Treadmill operated in an exotic location away from home. I spent an hour at the fitness center here watching the next two episodes of The Sea Devils, and had a great time.

Let's talk about that.

The Sea Devils - Episodes 3 & 4

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

Story-wise, my complaint about padding yesterday still holds true today. Usually a new episode backtracks a few seconds to bring you up to speed on whatever the last cliffhanger was, but for episode three it wound back a full 2 1/2 minutes. For a twenty four minute episode that is a significant chunk of the running time, and all to just show that when the Master threw a knife at the Doctor it wound up embedding in the wall beside his head and not in his body. Also, episode three of The Sea Devils contained absolutely no Sea Devils until the very last moment. They had already appeared several times in the first two episodes, so it's not like they were being held back for suspense. Imagine going to see The Fast and the Furious and getting virtually no car chases. (Wait a minute, they did that movie, it was called Drive...)

At least the fourth episode finally has an entire phalanx of Sea Devils walking up out of the ocean and invading the castle fortress where the Master is supposedly being held prisoner. That sequence also finally kills off the useless prison warden now that he had outlived his usefulness to the Master. So, things are finally picking up. Which is good, because the whole story wraps up tomorrow.

And speaking of tomorrow, the clock here may say it is only 6pm but my body still feels three hours later than that. Plus, I had to be up way early in the morning to catch my flight. I do believe my hotel bed is calling me. I will catch you, my dear Imaginary Readers, tomorrow.
