One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All, A.K.A. What's It All About, Alfie?

Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All, A.K.A. What's It All About, Alfie?

This morning I shifted my 100 push ups into four sets of 25 instead of five sets of 20,  which upped the difficulty factor but not by as much as I would have expected. It's still weird to me that  a few months ago I couldn't even do four of them and the thought of a hundred in one session was pure fantasy. It is absolutely true that this ridiculous project is working.

I also, of course, hit the treadmill and watched Doctor Who, so let's talk about that.

Closing Time

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

I will not think about that song, I will not think about that song, I will not think about that song. Dammit.

Ok, that's out of my system.

Yesterday's episode ended with the Doctor setting up Amy and Rory in their own home safely back on Earth. Today's episode takes place more than two hundred years later for the Doctor. He has spent a couple centuries running around time leaving clues for the Ponds (as seen at the beginning of The Impossible Astronaut), and now he is on his "farewell tour". Tomorrow he dies at Lake Silencio, and that's that.

But today he pops in to visit Craig from The Lodger, and finds him newly a father and on his first solo weekend with the baby while Sophie takes a much-needed break. Of course all hell breaks loose.

As you will recall, the Doctor speaks baby and so learns that little Alfie prefers to be called Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All. (We named our cat the same, Stormy for short. He has mellowed some with age, but he's still and evil bastard some of the time.)

Anyway, there turns out to be a Cyberman invasion going on, and over the course of the weekend Craig learns how to be a good father and ultimately avoids being turned into a CyberLeader through the power of love. So that's nice.  Amy and Rory show up very briefly, for less than a minute, and they never even see the Doctor. Pretty good work, getting top billing in the opening credits of a show and only having to show up for work for one afternoon that week.

So yeah, of course the Cybermen are defeated and Craig gains new confidence as a father. The Doctor borrows five TARDIS-blue envelopes, which will be sent out and set in motion the events of The Impossible Astronaut. Meanwhile, Doctor River Song is visited by Eyepatch Lady accompanied by some Silence and is forced into the astronaut suit and placed into Lake Silencio, ready to kill the Doctor. It's show time.

This is the first time in NuWho where the season finale hasn't been a two-parter. Then again, this season has been very tightly woven such that it feels more like a thirteen-parter with subsections, so there's that. After three consecutive very dark and disturbing stories, though, it was nice to have a bit of levity before the big finish. I do wish they would have stuck with the original working title, though:  Three Cybermen and a Baby
