But I'll talk about Blake's 7.

Children of Auron

Holy cow, what a great episode. It kicks off with Avon deciding to head to Earth in order to hunt down the Federation torturer who killed the woman Avon loved back in the Day. That gets thrown aside, though, when Cally receives a call for help from her clone sister Zelda on her home planet of Auron. Her people had cut themselves off from the rest of the universe decades ago, with Cally being thrown out for not remaining isolationist. Now, though, the entire planet is threatened by a plague that (unbeknownst to them) was actually manufactured by Servalan. It turns out the whole thing is a ploy for Servalan to get an entire batch of clone babies, taken directly from her own DNA.

There is much drama built around the plague decimating the population, and some back and forth as Servalan tries to take advantage of the situation to also gain possession of the Liberator because she can't not do that. But the most interesting thing comes right at the end.

Servalan is tricked into believing that her clones were actually never created due to some slight-of-hand, and so she calls in an air strike on the cloning facility for other strategic reasons. Except, in the moment when an entire batch of a dozen or so telepathic clones of hers are blown to bits, she psychically feels the death of every single one. It is a really powerful moment, very well done. I mean, she's an evil psychopath, but in that moment you can genuinely feel her pain as she suffers the loss of her own children. It's just great, great stuff.

Up until now she has almost always worn white, aside from the one vividly red dress plus when she had to wear a purple hand-me-down. But as of this episode she always wears black, in mourning of her children. She is a really interesting and complex character, and Jacqueline Pearce plays her to the hilt in all her dimensions. And believe me, Servalan has some very noticeable dimensions (if you know what I mean).

That is one happy lizard

The episode also gives Jan Chappell double duty, playing both herself and her clone, and gives her character some more much-needed back story. All in all this was just a great hour of television, and made for a very enjoyable workout. Yay!
