One minute you're sure, the next everybody turns into lizards and a piano falls on you

Today was the first of two consecutive Christmases. It is also my thirteenth wedding anniversary. In about an hour I will be going out to a very nice dinner with my wife, so I am getting this out of the way first so I can just go out and have a lovely romantic evening and forget about you, my dear imaginary readers.

So let's talk about the end of River Song's storyline.

Farewell, Ponds

Farewell, Ponds

I reached the end of another era today, and with more than 93% of all episodes viewed it seems like this ridiculous project is rushing towards its ending. This morning saw the final appearance of Rory Williams, and essentially the final appearance of Amy Pond (she will appear briefly one more time as a vision). Amy and the Eleven have been tied intrinsically together since Day One, so this made for pretty momentous viewing. The age of The Girl Who Waited is over, and tomorrow the age of The Impossible Girl begins in earnest.

So let's talk about that.

A Fond and Bittersweet Farewell to the Brigadier

A Fond and Bittersweet Farewell to the Brigadier

Today's story aired in the fall of 2011, and was filmed only a few months after actor Nicholas Courtney had passed away. If there is any more towering figure looming across the expanse of Doctor Who than Brigadier Lethbridge-Steward I don't know who it would be. And so, in today's episode he got both an obvious send-off and also a more subtle one.

So let's talk about that.

I have to tell you, I'm kind of hitting a wall right now. Not exercise-wise, that's still cooking right along (although I could certainly benefit from more variety and being unleashed from my treadmill). As much as I love Doctor Who, and as much as this particular season is certainly Matt Smith's best, I am really feeling the relentless slog at the moment. I think this is largely due to the fact that the end is near, but not quite near enough. In under two months I will have completed this ridiculous projects, but that's still nearly two months away. God am I planning on a huge celebration in Vegas come August...

But in the meantime, let's talk about the Justice Department. No, not that one, the other one.

I need to start this post with an apology. Seven years ago I accidentally spoiled the big reveal at the end of this episode to my friend and colleague Amelia Ross. She had specifically told me she hadn't watched the episode yet, so I had no excuse on that point. I simply blurted out in a conversation that was , at which point she gasped and said, "Did you just tell me that is ?!?!?" I wanted to crawl under a rock and die. I still work with her virtually every day (although this week she is on vacation in Scotland and - I hope - having an amazing time), and I value her friendship and skillset more than I can ever say. I don't know if she has ever actually forgiven my for my indiscretion. All I can say is...

So anyway, yeah, let's talk about that huge spoiler.

I Remember It Like It Was Two Days Ago

I Remember It Like It Was Two Days Ago

It seems somehow fitting that, for a story about a foe who disappears from your memory as soon as you don't see them, it would be the very first time in the history of this ridiculous project that I have taken two full days to remember to write up the blog post. Well, I mean, it's not so much that I didn't remember and more that I have been wrapped up in a software release for the last two days and haven't had a spare moment to write. The good news is, my code finally made it to production late last night (or very early this morning, depending on your perspective) so now I have time to get this done.

So let's talk about astronauts, death, treasonous presidents, and Stetsons.

We're all stories in the end. Just make it a good one, eh?

Happy Memorial Day everyone! I had a lovely, lovely holiday spending most of the day with my wife (we went out to a double feature of Solo and Deadpool 2). After two weeks of focusing on my Fringe show it was nice to get to take a whole day off and do nothing of consequence. Tomorrow I dive back into work, and a week from Sunday I jump into my next show (Xanadu, yay!!)

But yes, I did watch Doctor Who this morning, so let's talk about that.

This is not at all treadmill or Doctor Who related, I just have to say: Last night I had easily the best stage performance of my life at the Orlando Fringe Festival. Sure, it wasn't a massive audience, but who cares? The small crowd who attended all had a great time, and I felt absolutely in the groove for the entire performance. A dozen songs, lots of stories, and a direct connection with everyone in attendance -- it was just sublime. I am about to leave for my final performance of this show, and I couldn't be more proud of what I have achieved in the last year or so. And this ridiculous project? It's a huge part of what has gotten me here. So thank you, my dear Imaginary Readers, for keeping me motivated and moving. I treasure each and every one of you (especially the ones who aren't actually imaginary).

Speaking of imaginary people, let's talk about today's episode of Doctor Who.
