One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Four Hundred Miles

Four Hundred Miles

Big milestone today, I passed four hundred cumulative miles of walking since I started this project. Looks like I will hit the big 500 around the first of August. Yay me! Small milestone today, I finished The Space Pirates. Finally.

Let's talk about that.

The Space Pirates - Episodes 5 & 6

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

I really don't have much to say about this one. Evil Business Woman threw in with the Murderous Pirates, but then is shocked when the Murderous Pirates turn out to be Murderous. Also, the Murderous Pirates have had her thought-to-be-dead father locked in his private study for several years without her noticing, and use him as leverage when she decides to try out not being evil. She winds up being locked in her private office with the Doctor and companions, while the lead Murderous Pirate  sets up a nuclear warhead to detonate and kill everyone. General Exposition and Major ConvenientSupplementalQuestion are off in space and can't get there in time to help. Fortunately Mister Space Prospector is able to stage a rescue with NotDeadDad, and then the Doctor is able to defuse the bomb in possibly the longest and most boring literal ticking time bomb scene I have ever watched.

Ultimately all of the Murderous Pirates get blown up, NoLongerEvil Business Woman is reunited with NotDeadDad, and the Doctor and companions hitch a ride with Mister Space Prospector over to the planet where the TARDIS is safely orbiting in the stolen space junk. Thank God it's over.

So, yeah, not my favorite Doctor Who story ever.

Tomorrow, on the other hand, I start The War Games. It is the final story of the Second Doctor era, the last black and white story, and also the longest serial in the entire history of the show both in terms of episode count and running time. The last time I watched it was seven or eight years ago, and I liked it then. I am looking forward to diving into it tomorrow.
