One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

The Sea Was Angry That Day, My Friends

The Sea Was Angry That Day, My Friends

This is going to be mightily brief, because I have a very early flight to catch in the morning. The good news today is that, after nearly a month of wobbling around I have finally come back within two-tenths of a pound of my record low weight. Especially knowing what my next two weeks are going to be like (essentially walking non-stop all day circulating between three different hotel properties in Las Vegas for a major travel event), I feel like I am back on track. My sincere hope is that two weeks from now when I write my six month checkin, I will have finally broken through the 260 barrier. Time will tell.

Anyway, let's talk about The Sea Devils.

The Sea Devils - Episodes 1 & 2

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

This one is a six-parter, and it seems like it is off to a slow start. Where the last story was packed start to finish, this one seems to meander a bit. Case in point, apparently the second episode came up a little bit short in running time so they padded it with a full ninety seconds of the Master watching a children's puppet television show called The Clangers. I mean, really?

The story thus far is that the Royal Navy has started some new project on a 19th century sea fort, which has awakened an aquatic reptilian race related to the Silurians called the titular Sea Devils. Three ships have sunk mysteriously around the area of the sea fort, with all hands lost. Meanwhile, the Master is being held as the only prisoner in a maximum security facility located on a nearby island. At first he seems completely contained, but of course it turns out that he is manipulating the prison's personnel right up to the very top. At this point it is not clear whether he is controlling the Sea Devils or merely using their activity as a convenient means to his own ends.

Two episodes in, and (much like the Silurians first appearance) we haven't really seen much of the actual Sea Devils - only a few fleeting glimpses. More of the story has revolved around the Master's plotting. It's not a bad story, just a bit of a letdown after how great the previous one was. With four parts remaining it has plenty of time to surprise me, but thus far it's just been a bit of a yawner.

Tomorrow: As mentioned above, I have a very early flight to Las Vegas. My intention is to get in my treadmill time at the hotel fitness center once I have checked in, probably in the afternoon or evening. That being said, if I miss tomorrow you can blame it on time zones. That's what I usually do.
