Happy International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day

The BBC official Doctor Who twitter account sent out this amazing image today celebrating International Women's Day. They have done these in years past as well, but how cool is it to have Jodie Whittaker right there at the center if this year's photo? I also liked that they included the TARDIS in the photo, because she is definitely a woman as well. In other upcoming news, I saw today that Alan Cumming is going to be appearing in an episode of the new series as King James I. How cool is that?

In other news, I watched the rest of Battlefield this morning, but I don't have much to say about it. Let's get it done.

Battlefield - Parts 3 & 4

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

The back half of the story includes Ace rising out of the lake holding Excalibur aloft, which apparently took numerous takes to get right because while she was underwater she couldn't tell which was was up. It was a nice shot, though. It also has Sara Kingdom Morgaine summoning a beast called the Destroyer, whose primary motivation is (oddly enough) to destroy the world. Check out this clip for two things:  First, the Destroyer is, in my opinion, the single best bit of practical creature makeup effects in the entire history of the classic series. Second, the Brigadier was originally supposed to die in this scene while saving the world, but in the end the writer got cold feet and couldn't go through with it. Good for him.

All in all this was a perfectly fine story. As I said yesterday, not my favorite of the Seventh Doctor by any stretch, but still pretty good with the second half being much stronger than the first.

Only three more stories, and four more days, to go with the classic series. Where did the time go?
