One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Kira is Kitty, and They're Both Clio

In the theatrical production I am currently in, the plot revolves around the Greek muse Clio who had previously disguised herself as a southern belle named Kitty, and is now disguising herself as an Australian named Kira. There is a moment where my character talks about all three in one sentence. I thought of that moment during today's episode of Doctor Who when the Doctor finally explains to Clara that he had already met her twice previously in different eras.

So let's talk about that.

Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

The gist of this story is that, due to taking the shields down and exactly the wrong moment, the TARDIS is gravely damaged and falls into the hands of a salvage company. Clara is trapped somewhere deep in the bowels of the TARDIS, engines are going critical, and the Doctor press-gangs the three salvage operators into helping him rescue her. This is the first story since The Invasion of Time way back in the Fourth Doctor era to explore the interior of the TARDIS with any depth.

As time cracks start appearing, and things get a bit timey-wimey, the Doctor is ultimately forced to confront Clara and demand to know exactly who she is. Of course, the answer is that she is just... Clara. The reasons for her two other (so far) doppelgangers won't be revealed for a few more episodes yet, but the Doctor finally accepts that she is just a normal human and not up to any nefarious activity.

The resolution involves breaking a time loop and altering events such that the entire story never happened, and Clara has no memory of it at all. It also involves the use of some Whatever Technology in order to create a "Big Friendly Button" to fix the engine failure. It's a bit of a cop out, passingly clever, but not amazing. There's a whole thing with some weird molten zombie creatures stalking the interior of the TARDIS that eventually pays off, but really felt like just a way to pad out the time some.

On the whole, it's not a terrible episode but also not one that I would ever particularly feel the desire to revisit.

In other news, my right arm is still bonkers. I'll have to make some phone calls in the morning and get in to see a chiropractor and a doctor to try to address the problem. I presume I have pinched a nerve again, only this time instead of making my fingers numb it has made my arm weak. Physiology is fun!
