One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Humans. Even the clever ones are stupid.

Humans. Even the clever ones are stupid.

I took the day off for Thanksgiving, but carried on today with the treadmill. The downside: I thoroughly enjoyed my wife's cooking, which showed clearly in this morning's workout. Ah, well. The other downside: Sarah Jane Smith tries my patience with a Slitheen episode. Ugh.

Revenge of the Slitheen

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

I get it, farts are funny. And this show is targeted at the tween crowd, to whom farts are freaking hilarious. I just... really don't need another story with fat people walking around farting all the time. Yuk. Yuk. Yuk.

The gist of the story is that more of the Slitheen family have returned to Earth in order to take vengeance for what happened with the Ninth Doctor. So they build a bunch of school additions around the world in order to build some WhateverTechnology that will drain all of the energy from the Earth and the Sun, harvest anything of value once the human race has been destroyed, and return home to Raxacoricofallapatorian as conquering heroes. They just happen to pick the school where Maria and Luke are attending, and along the way new guy Clyde Langer joins the regular crew. Apparently he was added as a replacement for the annoying girl from the previous story because the producers felt there were too many women as leads. Which, on the one hand I disagree with in principle. But on the other hand, it means that the annoying girl from the previous story is gone forever and replaced with an actually-entertaining character, so in practice I am on board.

On the whole I liked this story just fine, once it dispensed with all the stupid farting in the first half. Sarah Jane's relationship with Luke is solidified, and Maria continues to shine as a companion. If I am not mistaken, this is also the last time I ever have to see the Slitheen, so that's pretty ok as well.

As for me, I am back at full speed and fighting to get back below 250 before Christmas. I don't know if I will make it, but I will surely give it my best shot. Wish me luck.
