One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

A Stupid, Stupid Story

Oh, this story. I can't even be bothered to spend more than a few minutes on it.

Secrets of the Stars - Parts 1 & 2

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

The premise of this story is that astrology is actually a Thing, a set of rules that existed from the previous universe prior to the Big Bang, and that functions completely outside the laws of physics and nature. Also, because Luke was never actually born (he was created by the Bane and "activated"), he is the sole person on the planet not ruled by the stars. It is a deeply stupid episode that very much continues with NotMaria, NotAlan, and NotChrissie clearly occupying the parts of the story that had already been written prior to Yasmin Paige giving her notice, and which the writers expended very little effort to modify. We even still get a NotCrissie moment of her deliberately getting Sarah Jane's name wrong.

Sigh.

This is the first SJA story that I have straight-up disliked. I can't think of a single redeeming moment in it. The sad thing is, it was originally conceived to be a sequel to the brilliant Masque of Mandragora, but then they decided that the Mandragora Helix would require too many changes to work, and would be too easy to defeat. So instead we got this piece of crap.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
