One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Do you honestly think that nothing else will get pooped out through the bunghole of time?

Do you honestly think that nothing else will get pooped out through the bunghole of time?

Man, watching your daily numbers will drive you insane. Normal people have normal daily fluctuations in weight, which is why it any sane person only steps on the scale occasionally. Naturally, I step on the scale every single day and then plot the result on a public chart on the open internet, because I am a moron. The good news: the daily fluctuation was in my favor today. So that was nice. And now I am going to think about Doctor Who instead.

The Coach with the Dragon Tattoo

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

The Sarah Jane Adventures had kind of a running gag in which Clyde Langer would routinely get doused head-to-to by alien slime, and then have to dejectedly wipe it out of his eyes. It seems that Class has a fairly similar running gag, except it's not funny and it involves footballer Ram Sing being doused head-to-toe by blood and gore as someone is horribly murdered right in front of him. In yesterday's episode it was his girlfriend being poleaxed by one of the Shadow Kin, and in today's episode it was a school worker being skinned and slaughtered by a giant dragon creature with all of the viscera just raining down on poor Ram. Dude is not having a good week.

In fact, he is having a great deal of trouble processing his girlfriend's death as well has having a new alien prosthetic leg. Just the combination of those two things has thrown him completely off his game, to the disappointment of his father and to the disgust of his poster-boy-for-toxic-masculinity coach. Also: said jerkwad coach also has a living tattoo of a dragon crawling around on his skin, and (as it turns out) that dragon has a mate that keeps coming through the Bunghole of Time and slaughtering innocent victims.

And by the way, thank you to Tanya Adeola for so accurately naming the weakness in space-time caused by all of the Doctor's mucking about with artron energy.

Meanwhile, Miss Quill has an observer in her classroom who ultimately turns out to be a robot sent by some unknown group called the Governors. It is a delightful little B-plot that provides some much needed levity to offset the grimness of the A-plot.

Most of the story, though, is focused on Ram's struggle and is nicely done. There is some real character growth there, in a way that brings the core four characters more tightly together as a group while also showcasing their differences. Ultimately Ram faces down the coach, who gets turned into dragon chow.

But for me, the single greatest moment of the show came in a fleeting camera shot that reveals the name of Coal Hill Academy's newest facility - the Barbara Wight Building.
