One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

At least we'll recognize it when we see it, even if we don't recognize it when we see it

At least we'll recognize it when we see it, even if we don't recognize it when we see it

Two thousand, five hundred miles as of today. How wild is that? I remember when just five hundred miles seemed almost unachievable. And yet, here we are. Fitness-wise, I seem pretty much in a holding patter. The moving average dropped, only because the very highest number dropped off, but in the last couple days I have had no real movement on that front. Which is, to put it mildly, frustrating. But here at the Time Treadmill we don't dwell on our anxieties, we just press onwards and commit to the program. Right? Well, that's what I keep telling myself anyway.

Star One

(Blake's 7 Wiki Recap)

This is the big second season finale, the thing the stories have been driving towards since Pressure Point eight episodes ago. The nice thing is, writer and show runner Chris Boucher pulls a nice swerve. The story starts with a disastrous collision between two ships on computer control for orbital entry into a Federation planet, and then some other quick exposition that shows that the titular Star One, the Federation's command and control computer base, is clearly either malfunctioning or under enemy control. My first assumption was that Travis was the cause, but as it turns out that is only true in the most indirect sense.

Blake and the Liberator crew arrive at Star One, located at the very outer reaches of the galaxy, and discover that it is at the spearhead of an invasion from the neighboring Andromeda galaxy. Whaaa?!?!?

That is a mighty big swerve, especially when it leads to the Liberator crew abandoning their plans to destroy the base, and to instead contact Servalan and the Federation to warn them of the invasion. Even more surprising, Travis is killed at the climax of the story (really killed, just like Gan, not a fake out). After two years of being the main bad guy, he is pretty much just tossed down an energy shaft to his death. Oops.

The final shot, the season cliffhanger, has Avon commanding the Liberator as it flies into battle to hold of the invading fleet until the Federation can arrive to join in the defense. Up is down, black is white, cats and dogs are living in sin, it's craaaaazy!

After a couple of lackluster episodes, this one paid off beautifully. It capped off the season arc, spun the story into an unexpected new direction, and ended on a massively satisfying cliffhanger. Bravo!

I guess tomorrow I'll find out who won the war?
