One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Flying Silver Spheres

I ain't gonna lie, some days this project is more challenging than others. It's not the story, I am still digging The Abominable Snowmen, but today is the third day in a row I have been back up above 280. It's been less each day, but still frustrating. I know it's just a blip, and I will get back on track, but it makes for a frustrating time. On top of that, for the last several days I have had to back off on the speed because I just couldn't keep up. Again, I know it's just a normal part of the process, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating.

At least I still have robot yeti to amuse me. Let's talk about that.

The Abominable Snowmen - Episodes 3 & 4

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

It turns out I was wrong. Padmasambhava is not the Great Intelligence, nor is he a disembodied voice. Rather he is a very old man, held under the sway of the Great Intelligence. He finally makes his first onscreen appearance at the very end of episode 4. By that point, the previously captured robot yeti has been reactivated when a flying sphere docks into its chest cavity. Also, the Abbot has carried some kind of pyramidal device out to the yeti cave and triggered the emergence of the Great Intelligence. The Doctor and Jamie return to the TARDIS for some tracking equipment to try to find out who is controlling the yeti, and Victoria maneuvers her way into the Abbot's inner sanctum and comes face to face with Padmasambhava.

One of the very creepy things that keeps happening is, both Padmasambhava and the Abbot have the ability (presumably via the Great Intelligence) to mesmerize people into following instructions and then forgetting. There are several times where the Abbot leaves the monastery on some errand, and does so in secret simply by telling the guard to not remember he was ever there.

Yeah, the yeti look like giant, cuddly McDonald's mascots and aren't especially terrifying, but all of the creepy mind control stuff is properly scary. This is not a monster story at its heart, it is a religious horror story. However exhausted I may be, I am truly looking forward to tomorrow's finale.
