One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Check Out the Big Brain on Brad

I'm keeping this one short because it's late and I want to go to bed. Tomorrow's a big day, I should hit the big 500 milestone. In the meantime, today I watched the middle two episodes of Colony in Space. Let's talk about that briefly.

Colony in Space - Episodes 3 & 4

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

Right off the bat I'll admit that my prediction yesterday was wrong. The Master was not in disguise as the survivor from another failed colony. Instead, the Master shows up posing as the Adjudicator sent from Earth to decide whether the colonists or the rapacious miners get to keep the planet. Before he arrives there is some back-and-forth conflict between both sides, as some of the more aggressive colonists invade the mining ship and take the executive crew captive. Along the way Jo Grant is captured first by the miners, and then by the natives of the planet. The Master arrives while the Doctor is off trying to get Jo back, which is where he discovers that there are in fact two different sentient indigenous species on the planet. There are the tall green ones we have already seen, and then there are the short tan brainy ones who are running the show. At first the big brainy leader is going to execute the Doctor and Jo for defiling their ancient underground city, but in the end the Doctor convinces Big Brain to set them free on the condition that the Doctor and Jo never set foot there again. Which of course means that in tomorrow's viewing one or both of them will need to go back.

By the end of the fourth episode the Doctor and Jo are back at the colony, and open warfare has broken out between the colonists and the rapacious miners. In the confusion, the Master pulls a gun and threatens to kill our heroes. Roll credits.

It's a good story with plenty of twists and turns, and so far no saggy bits. We still don't know what the Master's real plot is here, but presumably the doomsday weapon will show up tomorrow. Also tomorrow, as long as I can keep a steady pace and make it the full fifty minutes, I will just barely reach 500 cumulative miles on the treadmill. How cool is that?
