One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Bit of a shock, Zygon ship under the Savoy, half the staff impostors. Still, it's all fixed now, eh?

Yes, I walked on the treadmill today. Yes, I watched Doctor Who today. Yes, I want to go to bed. So let's talk about the middle thing so I can do the last thing.

The Power of Three

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

The charm of this episode is that it is told from Amy and Rory's perspective, living their lives as part-time companions of the Doctor while a slow-motion invasion plays out over the course of a year. It's a really clever idea that forces the Doctor to (unsuccessfully) experience "normal" life while waiting for something to happen. I like this episode a lot, and I am very encouraged by the fact that writer Chris Chibnall is the new show runner for the upcoming Thirteenth Doctor era.

This story also introduces Kate Stewart, the daughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, who will play a major role in upcoming stories.

Basically, all over the world a bunch of mysterious and featureless small black cubes just sort of appear. And then do nothing. And then continue to do nothing. Rory's dad Brian dogmatically keeps a daily vlog about how the cubes do nothing, for nearly a year. Meanwhile, Amy and Rory try to reconcile their "real" lives with their TARDIS lives, and in one montage they go on a seven week adventure with the Doctor in the middle of their anniversary party with none of their friends even noticing. (Brian notices, though. Rory's dad is a very observant guy.)

So of course, eventually the cubes actually do something that is going to involve wiping out all of humanity, and of course the Doctor does a Very Clever Thing to eliminate the threat. And then Amy and Rory decide to travel full-time with the Doctor. This, of course, turns out to be a bad idea given that they die in the very next episode. Oops.

And that's all I got. I am going to bed now. I hope all of you, my dear imaginary readers, have a lovely evening.
