How depressing is it to pick a classic Bill Hicks quote for an episode that has a scene where the protagonists find a shelf filled with abandoned shoes, only to encounter a story two days later titled Random Shoes? Ah, well.

This was another good day on the treadmill, and my weight finally trended back downwards, so happy times. It was also a fairly decent episode of Torchwood. It very much fits into the mold of the Doctor-Lite episodes over in the main series, and in fact it reminds me quite a bit of Love and Monsters (with less humor). Much like that story, this one is narrated by a new character and told from his perspective. Also much like that story, the focal character is a social outcast. Unfortunately, poor Eugene also spends the entire story dead. The episode opens with his body lying dead in the road, and has his ghost effectively haunting Gwen as she tries to unravel his death.

I really did think it was a sweet story, well told. Perhaps a bit over-cute in moments, but never to the extremes in the afore-mentioned Love and Monsters. As the sadness of his life unfolds, especially with his estranged father, it is a real weeper. After the brutality of the previous story it was nice to have a breather.

Unfortunately, although I was finally headed in the right direction I also had a work trip to leave for which led to four days without working out. So... ouch.
