Damn Mosquitos

After such a good episode on Friday, Saturday morning's episode was a bit of a let down even with the guest appearance by Martha Jones. I don't have much to say about it, but let's get it out of the way.

Reset

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

Workout-wise it was also a let down, in that I wasn't able to maintain anywhere near the pace I had on the previous few days. That's ok, it's part of the process, and sometimes you need to take a lighter day. I still broke four miles on the treadmill, so it's not like it was a lazy stroll, I just wasn't going all-out for fifty five minutes straight. I also spent several hours later in the day walking around the Magic Kingdom with my son, so I did get a full workout.

As for the story... meh. It wasn't bad, per se, it just wasn't nearly as good as the rest of the season has been so far. The story boils down to the fact that Charles Widmore from Lost is running a medical research facility in which he is illegally using alien life forms to test out new drugs and procedures on voluntary human test subjects. In particular, he has a Giant Space Mosquito whose larvae have the useful side-effect of healing any illnesses or genetic defects in their host. The good news: it cures whatever ails them. The bad news: then the larvae hatch and the human host is not so much cured as just dead. Which, as medical side-effects go, is kind of a bad one.

The big shocker comes at the end, when Owen takes a bullet through the heart during the final showdown. Speaking of oops.

Martha is largely wasted in the episode. She and Jack spar a bit, she goes in undercover to infiltrate the research facility, and she even gets a Baby Space Mosquito in her belly before Owen manages to zap it away with an Alien Whatever Device, but mostly she's just kinda... there.

Overall this would be an utterly forgettable episode if it weren't for the surprise death at the end. Except, of course, that Owen doesn't stay dead. Well, I mean, he does stay dead, but he's still an active character on the show for a bit longer. Which I guess I will get to tomorrow.
