I ended yesterday's post by saying today's episode could be great or it could be awful. Well, it wasn't great...
Mona Lisa's Revenge - Parts 1 and 2
(TARDIS Data Core recap)
The basis of this story is that the Mona Lisa is brought to London for display in the International Gallery, and comes to life because of Reasons. The painting, which to my best understanding has only left France twice in the last hundred years, is hung with apparently no protective case and with laughably bad security. I mean, I get this is a children's show, but from a writing standpoint it was just horrifying how poor the setup was from a believability standpoint (and I am not even talking about the alien-ink-brings-the-subject-to-life plot). We are also to believe that Clyde Langer's comic book style drawing of three futuristic hot chicks wielding Sontaran blasters is so good that it wins a national art contest and is hung in the same gallery, with his whole class invited to be the first to view Da Vinci's masterpiece.
So, yeah.
Mona steals the Sontaran gun, because apparently she can conjure anything painted into a real physical item, then she traps a bunch of people (including Sarah Jane) into paintings because apparently she can do that. Mostly she runs around being very modern and cheeky, to the point of even making a fart joke about the woman who sat for Leonardo for the painting.
So, yeah.
I did not much enjoy this episode.
