Oh, Goody. Another Space Trial. Still My Favorite!

Oh, Goody. Another Space Trial. Still My Favorite!

I saw that doctor this morning about my pinched nerve, and she started me on a round of Prednisone to see if that will help calm it down. It has been getting gradually better, but my right index finger is still mostly numb and I regularly get the janglies all down my arm. At least it is not actively painful anymore. It is making it harder to type, though, which is a problem since as a software developer typing is how I pay my bills. It's a six day course of medication, which means by the time I finish I still won't be done watching the longest single story in Doctor Who history. Although, whether or not it is considered a single story or four thematically related stories is a frequently-debatable topic.

So let's talk about that.

He Used to Be the Fastest One-Handed Typist in the Galaxy

I ain't gonna lie, I was pretty frustrated when I got on the scale this morning and was back over 250. I hadn't actually been on a scale since the morning I left for Denver last week, I expected some backsliding, but not quite that much. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Still and all, as long as it is not a trend that continues then it is all good. I took more than half a week off without any serious exercise, the numbers will start moving back in the right direction shortly. This isn't the end.

But it almost was for Doctor Who. Let's talk about that.

Knight of the Woeful Countenance

Today was my first day back on the treadmill after a weekend in the Rocky Mountains where I had no access (and, frankly, no desire). I expected it to be a rough go. but overall it wasn't bad. I still went for just over four miles, which wasn't half bad. Unfortunately, I spent it watching another damn Dalek story, and a weird one at that.

So let's talk about that.

I Didn't Realise Dying Heroically Was Such a Strain on the Nerves

I Didn't Realise Dying Heroically Was Such a Strain on the Nerves

Today has been an epic day. I started out with an hour on the Time Treadmill down in the hotel fitness center (were I garnered a few raised eyebrows from other folks working out, seeing my very-80's science fiction television program on the screen). Then I walked over to a place called Syrup for breakfast, and had the crack bacon (if you are ever in Denver, I highly recommend it). Then I attended the second day of my software development conference, an during my lunch break I recorded the new song I wrote for the show - When the Avalanche Comes. I wound up being invited to sing it during the closing session, and it was a rousing success. Then i had a lovely evening socializing with other developers, and then going out do dinner with my wife and a co-worker. All in all a very successful day.

So, about that very-80's science fiction program, let's talk about that.

So, the good news is that my arm continues to improve. Today, for the first time in nearly a week, i could go for hours at a time without consciously noticing my right arm, aside from ongoing numbness in my right index finger. And let me tell you, it's really difficult to finger pick on the guitar when you can't feel your fingertips. Anyway, the muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatories seem to be helping, and that's nice, but I am still a bit worried. I am out of state at a conference in Denver this week, but next week I will be seeing my primary doctor. I presume I will be referred to a physical therapist. Oh, joy.

Speaking of my primary Doctor, I finally got back on the treadmill this evening after missing two days in a row. Let's talk about that.

My arm is marginally better today. If I wasn't traveling to Colorado in two days I wouldn't be worried at all, but as it is I am probably going to go see a doctor tomorrow just in case. I don't want to be stuck in the Rocky Mountains for a week wishing I had seen a doctor before I left. Then again, I guess if I need something to help me relax in Denver...

Anyway, I also watched the last part of The Two Doctors today, so let's talk about that.

Whatever the heck I did to my right arm, it doesn't seem to be improving much. It feels like I tweaked a nerve, and depending on what I am doing and how long since my last dose of ibuprofen, it is either mostly ok or else all tingly and muscle-achy and my right index finger goes numb. So that's not a good sign. If it hasn't radically improved by Monday morning I may have to make a trip to Urgent Care. So that's nice.

On the upside, I got to spend an hour this morning with My Doctor, the Second (and best). So let's talk about that.

That stretching session I had yesterday evening? Yeah, still feeling it today. It's good, but boy howdy I wasn't exactly jazzed to get back on the treadmill this morning. Still I know that you, my dear imaginary readers, would be disappointed if I missed another day so I forced myself to do it. I knew I wasn't up to going full speed, but I didn't want to be lazy, so I split the difference and went 4.5 mph for the full session. I made it all the way through, but i was definitely feeling it by the end. Ultimately I was glad I forced myself.

Anyway, I also watched the rest of the current story today. It paid off with a t-rex. Let's talk about that.

An inspiration of geniuses?

I had a very, very late night last night with a software release that took the better part of five hours to complete. As a result, I didn't exactly bounce out of bed this morning. Even so, I did manage to squeeze in my treadmill time early this evening. Then I went for a stretching session with a sports therapist, and right now I feel like I went a full round with Mike Tyson. So I'm kinda ready for bed  now.

But first, let's talk about the Rani.
