Traveling Day Aug 19 2017 All done in Vegas today, but what with a long flight traveling three time zones into the future, it means that I had to be checked out of my room by 7am local time and would not arrive back to my own home until nearly 9pm. So, no Doctor Who today. Sorry. Read more ...
Roll Up, Roll Up! Aug 18 2017 3rd Doctor Jo Grant Well, today is my last day in Las Vegas. I am up bright and early tomorrow to catch a flight back home, and I am more than ready to get there. I am actually pleased and surprised that I managed to get on the treadmill for eleven out of my twelve days here, I honestly thought I would have more days where I just couldn't fit it in. I just did the math, and between my treadmill time plus just generally walking around working this convention I walked a total of 266,001 steps and 138.71 miles. You would think I would have lost weight while I was here, but all of that walking was more than counteracted by so many amazing meals. I am sure it will take me a month to recover from this trip, but it was so worth it. As for today, I watched the first half of Carnival of Monsters, which is hands-down my favorite Third Doctor story. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
The World Is Not Enough Aug 17 2017 1st Doctor 2nd Doctor 3rd Doctor Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart Jo Grant This is going to be brief because I'm in Vegas, the conference I have been helping to run is over, and I have a party to go to. But dang it, I still managed to squeeze in an hour on the treadmill and two episodes of Doctor Who because you all matter so much to me, my dear Imaginary Readers. So let's talk extremely briefly about The Three Doctors. Read more ...
I am He and He is Me Aug 16 2017 1st Doctor 2nd Doctor 3rd Doctor Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart Jo Grant After missing my treadmill session yesterday, I was bound and determined to get it in today. I barely managed it between my main work shift and a working dinner tonight (poor me, I had to go to a fantastical catered dinner with amazing food and live entertainment at the Bellagio, I am sure you are weeping for my plight). That being said, I am truly on my last legs right now. But as I said, I did manage to watch the first two episodes of the very excellent The Three Doctors. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
Missing Day Aug 15 2017 Yeah, sorry... I am still on site at an event in Las Vegas. Monday was an extraordinarily long day, I was up early again yesterday, and by the time I finished work for the evening I had two options: Go get on the treadmill before the hotel fitness center closed, or go have an amazing dinner on a patio looking directly out onto the Bellagio fountains. I love you, my dear Imaginary Readers, but holy cow that Kobe Beef Tataki was excellent. Read more ...
In Which Sergeant Benton Tries On a New Suit Aug 14 2017 3rd Doctor Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart Jo Grant I have been in Vegas now for eight days. I could try to convince myself that the scale here is wrong, but... it isn't. So that's depressing. But I am still hitting the treadmill every day, and today was a particularly difficult day to squeeze that in. I am exhausted and ready to fall into bed but I know that you, my dear Imaginary Readers, would be sorely disappointed if I didn't tell you all about the end of The Time Monster. So let's talk about that. Read more ...
Sorry 'Bout Your Coccyx, Jo Aug 13 2017 3rd Doctor Jo Grant I love Vegas, I love coming here every summer for Virtuoso Travel Week, but the huge downside is food. It's just so good, and there are so many dinners with so many friends and co-workers it is nearly impossible to eat light. Which is awesome, but even with all of the walking I do it is almost impossible not to put on some weight while I am here. This past month has been a struggle anyway, and this really isn't helping on that front. But hey, I will surely get back on track when I get home, right? Right?!? I also watched two more episodes of Doctor Who today. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
In Which Sergeant Benton is Brighter Than He Appears Aug 12 2017 3rd Doctor Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart Jo Grant I almost missed using the treadmill today, because although I thought I set my alarm it was only programmed for weekdays. I woke up with barely enough time to get to work down in the hotel conference center and then was beset by unexpected issues right away. I didn't even manage to get any breakfast at all until nearly 10am, and it was a struggle to be pleasant when I was both hungry and missing my morning workout. Fortunately I was able to draw upon my prodigious acting skills and behave like a decent human being until I was later able to both get some food and to work in two episodes of Doctor Who on a treadmill in the hotel's fitness center. So I guess it all worked out okay, and the new story was even pretty good. Read more ...
What the Caterpillar Calls the End of the World, the Master Calls a Butterfly Aug 11 2017 3rd Doctor Jo Grant In the last day I have discovered the beauty and wonder of knee braces. Remember last week when I had my knees x-rayed? (I'm sure you do, because I know that all of my Imaginary Readers are nothing if not faithful.) Well, it turns out I have bone spurs which are compressing the nerves in my knees and causing the burning sensation. Anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen help, but adding some moderately firm knee braces when I am walking has made a huge difference. My wife tells me they also make me look hardcore, so that's cool too. So this morning I took my first spin on the Time Treadmill with braces on, and finished up watching The Mutants. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
500 Days, I Mean Years, of Summer Aug 10 2017 3rd Doctor Jo Grant The big revelation in today's viewing of the middle third of The Mutants? The planet Solos has no tilt to its axis, meaning the seasons are uniform throughout the planet, and it has an orbit of 2,000 years, which somehow translates to four seasons of 500 years apiece. Don't think too hard about that, the astronomical physics don't really work, but that's all good. So for the entire duration of the human occupation of Solos it has been the same season. But now much, like the anti-Westeros, Summer is coming. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
