One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

The Emperor Will See You Now

The Emperor Will See You Now

Today marks the three month anniversary of this project. In that time I have walked well over a half million steps, almost 275 miles, and this morning I weighed in 28.3 lbs lighter than the day I started. I used to always leave my shirts untucked, because of course I did. Lately I have been tucking them in, because although I still have a belly that extends over my belt line it's not by much anymore and it doesn't seem grotesque. I feel significantly better than I did three months ago, and without going into any gross details I will just say that some previously-persistent GI issues have almost completely evaporated. I think it is safe to say I am very happy with the results of this project so far.

Also, I watched two more episodes of The Evil of the Daleks this morning. I guess I have to talk about that?

The Evil of the Daleks - Episodes 5 & 6

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

So, Jamie finally found Victoria. Then she was promptly kidnapped and moved to yet another location. I'm just saying that there is so much padding in this story that if a princess were to lay on top of it, she definitely wouldn't feel the pea-sized plot underneath.

Some stuff happened, some other stuff happened, the Doctor infected three infant Daleks with the essence of humanity and then named them Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Eventually everyone important to the end of the story gets transported back to Skaro, and the Doctor finally meets the Emperor Dalek.  It turns out that while the Doctor thought the Daleks were trying to capture the essence of humanity, they were actually capturing the essence of Dalek perfection - hatred, rage, extermination, xenophobia, blind obedience... you know, an evening at the Trump White House.

The ultimate cliffhanger at the end of episode 6 is that the Daleks are going to force the Doctor to use the TARDIS to spread the essence of Daleks throughout all of human history in order to destroy mankind. Uh-oh.

There is a note in the TARDIS Data Core page that in 1993 readers of the British science fiction magazine DreamWatch Bulletin voted The Evil of the Daleks as the best ever Doctor Who story. Those readers were clearly all smoking crack. (The correct answer, by the way, would have been Genesis of the Daleks.)

The good news is, only one more episode tomorrow and then I am done with the damn Daleks until sometime in the fall.
