One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

The Dumbenators

The Dumbenators

Oh, god. I have reached the Planet of Giants of the Patrick Troughton era, and it has sapped my will to live. Season six opens with The Dominators -- a five part story that is clearly going to test my endurance in every possible way.

Let's talk about that.

The Dominators - Episodes 1 & 2

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

The story, such as it is, involves the planet Dulkis and is primarily set on an island where nuclear tests were performed 174 years previously and which is still red-hot with radiation. At lest it is until a flying saucer lands bearing two dudes with ridiculous shoulder pads and a squad of robot failed merchandising attempts called the Quarks.

We have come to dominate the Christmas toy-selling season (but we will fail miserably).

The Dominators suck up all the radiation in order to power their literal flying saucer, and then set about making plans to subjugate the planetary population. Unfortunately, the population consists of people whose idea of fashion is to take down the window curtains and wrap them around their chests.

No, I don't feel silly at all. Why do you ask?

There is some kind of plot point about how incurious the people are. There is a contrivance to separate Zoe from the Doctor and Jamie, of course. For a while the Dominators have the Doctor and Jamie as prisoners, and then release them after they come to the conclusion they are morons. I think there was a cliffhanger at the end of the second episode, but eight hours later I have completely forgotten it and I can't be bothered to go back and look it up. The only thing that kept me even remotely interested was Wendy Padbury.

Hello, gentlemen!

I guess tomorrow I have to watch another two episodes of this dreck. I really don't want to. I might consider abandoning this entire project, just to never have to watch the rest of this story. Maybe I'll try early morning drinking to numb the pain.
