If you squint, you can finally see my weight graph moving in the right direction. My moving average has be down about 2 lbs from a week ago, which exactly the nice, healthy, sustainable rate I shoot for. I am feeling good about my progress. Which is more than I can say for Torchwood: Miracle Day.
Miracle Day: The Categories of Life
(TARDIS Data Core recap)
This episode turns around the opening of "overflow camps", places where the wounded and the should-be-dead are now being sent. These camps are operating in the United States and in Europe. In case the allusions are too subtle, it turns out that the should-be-deads are actually being incinerated in giant ovens. You know, like the Nazi concentration camps. Subtlety is not the strong point of this series. (Who am I kidding? Nothing is the strong point of this series.)
Gwen's dad is in a Welsh overflow camp, marked as Category 1 (should-be-dead), and is being sent off to the ovens at the climax. Did I mention she flew back to Wales? Because she totally did. Meanwhile back in LA, Rex figures out the oven thing at the same time when Doctor Vera dies horribly as he watches helplessly through a viewing window. Well, helplessly except for the part where he videotapes the whole thing, because the world has to know!!
I guess it would have been a shocking ending if I actually cared about Vera, or Rex, or really anybody in this stupid show. And also if the oven thing had been a shocking twist instead of a heavily telegraphed non-surprise.
On the upside, I am now halfway done with this stupid season. Five more days, and then it's on to happy times visiting with Sarah Jane Smith. Next Tuesday can't come soon enough.
