I usually title these posts with a line of dialog from the episode I watched that day. Today's episode did not disappoint. By which I mean, of course both episodes were extremely disappointing, but at least they gave me a perfectly accurate title to use.
Black Hunger
(TARDIS Data Core recap)
Sigh. Security Chief Drake is up to something nefarious. Also: two fart jokes. On the upside, Drake gets fired at the end of the story and is replaced by Thorne, so there will never be another "Security Chief Drake is up to something nefarious" story. On the downside, I have no doubt at all that this will be replaced by "Security Chief Thorne is up to something nefarious" stories, so no net change.
The Cambridge Spy
(TARDIS Data Core recap)
Something Jorjie has come gone thorough the space time portal. This story sends Jorjie back to London on November 23, 1963, and then completely fails to make any use of that date as anything other than a winking nod to Doctor Who fans. No passing police box, no mention of Coal Hill School, nothing. Also: Darius' great-great-grandfather is so identical to Darius that he could have been played by the same actor. Because he was. Also also: Thorne's great-great grandfather is so identical to Thorne that he could have been played by the same actor. Because he was. The entire story is a lazy exercise in redressing the existing standing set in a vain attempt to get a different location for the story without extending any real effort.
In summary: yesterday was clearly an anomaly.
