Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold!

Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea's getting cold!

I ain't gonna lie: I teared up a bit at 7:37 am when I reached the closing credits of the final episode of the Classic Who era. In one way it feels like I have been doing this ridiculous project forever, and in another it seems like only yesterday that I stepped on the Time Treadmill and said hello to Susan, Ian, Barbara, and the Doctor for the first time. I still have about another four months to go before I complete the entire project, but to day was a huge milestone. As of this morning I can say with absolute certainty that I have watched every single episode of Doctor Who that has ever been broadcast (including the lost episodes, in the form of reconstructions). Along the way I have completely transformed my body and my health. That's no small thing.

As for this last story, well, it was a bit of a disappointment. So let's talk about that.

Warning: Dangerous Undercurrents

Wow. Just... wow. I couldn't treadmill this morning because Reasons, and so I had to put it off until this evening. I just finished, and I am completely stunned by the ending to The Curse of Fenric. Honestly, I could never watch another episode of Doctor Who again and I would be perfectly satisfied with this as my last memory of the show. It was really that good.

So let's talk about that.

Let the Chains of Fenric Shatter

Let the Chains of Fenric Shatter

Two weeks ago I added pushups to my workout routine, using an app called 100 Pushups. I had tried using it a couple years ago, but couldn't even do a regular pushup. I had to do modified pushups with my knees on the ground. It was pathetic and embarrassing, and I gave up (probably too quickly). Oddly enough, losing sixty pounds makes doing regular pushups quite a bit easier. Even so, on the first day of this new attempt I could barely do three. This morning I did thirty four. It remains to be seen if I will achieve the 100 pushups in six weeks promised by the program, but so far it is going well. As I told my wife this morning, give me four months and a Hollywood budget and I'll go all Chris Pratt on you.

From zero to hero only takes a few months, a few million dollars, a squadron of personal trainers and nutritionists, and no day job or other responsibilities...

Anyway, I also started watching the next-to-last Classic Who story this morning. It's a good'n. Let's talk about that.

Scratch the Victorian Veneer and Something Nasty'll Come Crawling Out

Scratch the Victorian Veneer and Something Nasty'll Come Crawling Out

Today was a longer-than-usual day on the treadmill. The next story was a three-parter, but where last season had the two three-parters back-to-back so I could just watch them together in three days, this season goes 4-3-4-3. So I decided to watch today's story in its entirety, and I will do the same on Monday. That means today I went for 80 minutes, and walked nearly six miles. Oh, and then I did 28 pushups. So, a bit of a workout today.

As for for the story, it was a good one. So let's talk about that.

Happy International Women's Day

Happy International Women's Day

The BBC official Doctor Who twitter account sent out this amazing image today celebrating International Women's Day. They have done these in years past as well, but how cool is it to have Jodie Whittaker right there at the center if this year's photo? I also liked that they included the TARDIS in the photo, because she is definitely a woman as well. In other upcoming news, I saw today that Alan Cumming is going to be appearing in an episode of the new series as King James I. How cool is that?

In other news, I watched the rest of Battlefield this morning, but I don't have much to say about it. Let's get it done.

Any Advanced Form of Magic is Indistinguishable from Technology

Any Advanced Form of Magic is Indistinguishable from Technology

Back in the mid-80's DC comics broke new ground in the comic book industry. launching several new limited-run event series with much more complex and mature themes than were previously common. Some of those titles, like Watchmen and The Dark Knight Returns, are still considered classics and landmarks of the art form. Prior to those two, the very first "maxi-series", was a twelve issue story by Mike Barr and Brian Bolland called Camelot 3000. I bought every issue of that thing as they came out and ate it up. The premise was an alien invasion all wrapped up in Arthurian legend, with all of the key characters reborn again a futuristic backdrop. These days the series is largely forgotten (probably deservedly so), but I thought of it again this morning as I watched the first half of Battlefield.

So let's talk about that.

Who: Ragnarok

Who: Ragnarok

I spent more time running today on the treadmill, which was a nice improvement after yesterday. I think I spent about six minutes at a running pace, scattered throughout the 55 minute workout. I've got a ways to go there, but it's progress. I have myself alternating days on the pushups, I am working with the 100 pushups app and am making real progress there. Other than that, today I wrote a ton of code and that's about it.

But I did watch the end of the circus story, so let's talk about that.
