One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

Oh what  day this has been. I came within a tenth of a pound of cracking 260 again, so I am comfortable that I am well on the path to the goal of being solidly under 260 before Thanksgiving, and under 250 before Christmas. So that's awesome. In other news, my autistic son Benjamin managed to completely surprise me today by specifically asking to go on a scary ride at Walt Disney World that he had steadfastly avoided for five years. He was adamant about trying it, though, and waited patiently in line for over two hours in order to do it. I can't even adequately express how amazing this was, just a huge moment for him. So that's pretty cool.

On the other hand, I had to start watching Torchwood: Miracle Day today. Ugh.

I was supposed to have watched this episode on Thursday morning, but I overslept slightly. Just barely enough that I didn't have time to get on the treadmill before my responsibilities for the day. Said day also including a software release with my day job, that meant I had no time at all during the day to make it up. Ah, well. The good news is my release went off without a hitch, my end users are very happy with the new stuff, and today I am back on the treadmill. Woo hoo.

As predicted, my five day moving average for weight finally turned around today. I expect a much bigger drop in that number tomorrow when my peak weight finally falls away. Things are moving back in the right direction, and that is well worth being happy about. On the other hand, today's viewing of Torchwood was easily the biggest gut-punch in the show's history.

Middle Men Get No Respect

Middle Men Get No Respect

.I am a year and nearly nine months into this ridiculous project, and as the chart clearly shows the second year has been much more difficult than the first. It is spectacularly difficult to maintain such an aggressive mindset for so long. It's always psychologically difficult to be on the upward end of a spike, especially one as significant as this one. The five day moving average is basically stalled out today, but should gain momentum downwards as the week goes on. Should.

In the meantime, I have reached the midpoint of Children of Earth.

I was slightly worried that I would bounce back up this morning when I weighed in, but happily that was not the case.  Assuming the same is true tomorrow, then my five day moving average should finally start to turn back around tomorrow as well. Time will tell, but I am feeling positive. As for Torchwood, well... I think today's episode may even have been better than yesterday's. Why couldn't we have had this show all along?

Welcome Back, Peter Capaldi

One of the nice things about getting back into an exercise program after slacking off for a bit is that the universe tends to reward you right away in order to encourage you. Case in point, I weighed in more than three pounds lighter this morning than I did yesterday. Of course that is not any kind of sustainable momentum, but I am confident that the awful trend lines in my five day moving average will start turning back around handily in short order. I have what I think is a very reasonable goal of being comfortably back below 260 well before Thanksgiving, and to finish the year back below 250.

In the meantime, today I started in on Torchwood: Children of Earth, and holy cow did it deliver.

So, umm... it's been a minute.  The last time I posted was three weeks ago. I did watch a couple more episodes of Torchwood in the week that followed, but never managed to sit down and write about it. Sorry. Then I moved my elderly mother to the opposite corner of the country. First I had to get her stuff shipped, then I flew with her cross-country and got her settled in, then I came back home and got her old apartment cleaned out. It took a bit of my time. I also had some other personal stuff going on. The upshot is, whereas I had just started turning my weight trend around last month, now I have rocketed back up a full five pounds. Oops. The good news is that I am back, and as of today I am on the treadmill and focused on getting that trend line bend downwards again. But I ain't gonna lie, that chart over on the right hand side of this page scares me. A lot.

But anyway, about Torchwood...
