One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

I use a digitally modelled time cone isometry parallel bussed into the image translator

I gotta tell ya, these days just keep catching up to me in the worst way. It's after midnight, and I am just finally sitting down to write this. The good news is, my moving average is back below 250 as expected, and is withing six hundredths of a pound of my record low. Tomorrow is going to be a brutal (but rewarding) day. I have two performances of my show, and the first one is a Sensory Friendly show, to which my autistic son is attending. It will be the first feature-length theatrical production that he has ever gone to, and the first time he will ever see me performing on stage. Not that I have any kind of a major role, I am just one of the ensemble players doing six different parts over the course of the show, but it has been a great experience and I am thrilled to have my son coming to see me. On the downside, it's hard enough to squeeze in an hour on the treadmill along with my full time job plus performances. Getting this blog post done is tough to fit in. But here I am.

So let's talk about today's viewing.

Warriors' Gate - Parts 1 & 2

(TARDIS Data Core recap)

This story is the concluding part of the E-Space trilogy, in which the Doctor & companions have fallen through a Charged Vacuum Emboitment into Exo-Space (the difference between E-Space and our regular N-Space is similar in concept to the difference between Real Numbers and Imaginary Numbers). As today's story begins, the TARDIS is caught up in a time disruption and ends up in a kind of non-space lodged right at the nexus point between E-Space and N-Space. It is quite literally nowhere, and everything behaves oddly there. Also stuck in the non-space is a cargo ship carrying slaves, one of whom manages to escape and briefly enter the TARDIS. From there it's all a bunch of surrealist imagery as the Doctor, Romana, K9, and Adric are all split up into separate places trying to puzzle their way back to the TARDIS.

This was an extremely troubled production, between a problematic script and an inexperienced director. On top of that, Tom Baker had been ill for most of the season. On top of that, by then Tom Baker and Lalla Ward had a bit of a sumpin' sumpin' going on, and neither were happy that Romana was being written out of the series. Given all of that behind-the-scenes drama, then, it is surprising that the story works as well as it does. I am actually enjoying it quite a bit so far, even if it is difficult to describe. Of course it is aided by the fact that Adric is given very little to do, and is separated from the rest of the cast for most of the story so far. My enjoyment of an Adric-era story is inversely proportional to the amount of Adric screen time. (I have a nightmare that someday I might meet Matthew Waterhouse and ask him to sign my Time Treadmill motivational poster, and I will have to say something like, "Would you please sign my treasured artifact, person whose character I despise and whom I count the days until his untimely demise? Thank you!")

Tomorrow, then, is when I say my goodbyes to both Romana and K9. I will miss the tin tog quite a bit, and I will be sad to see the Time Lady go as well. If I had a TARDIS of my own, I would go back and boot Adric back into E-Space and drag those to back into the show. I don't think I am alone in this fantasy.
