One fat geek's SUCCESSFUL attempt to regenerate into a not-so-fat geek by watching the entirety of Doctor Who while walking on a treadmill

After having gotten back on track yesterday, I almost blew it today. I just couldn't drag my butt out of bed at 6am, and my son had an early doctor appointment (which, ironically, caused me to miss my early Doctor appointment.) I managed to squeeze in my fifty five minutes on the treadmill over my lunch break, though, so I am still on track to finish this ridiculous project on Monday, August 6th.

As for my viewing today, of course it included an "are you my mummy" joke. So let's talk about that.

It's Independence Day, a day off from work for me (notwithstanding the fact that I did, in fact, fix several bugs and do a code deployment to Production), so I took advantage and did another two-fer today in order to catch up. As of this moment I am on target to complete this ridiculous project on Monday, August 6th. That, of course, presumes that I will not miss any days between now and then. I am so going to take a nap on the plane to Vegas on August 7th...

So anyway, let's talk about Doctor Who.

What do you think of the new look? I was hoping for minimalism, but I think I came up with magician.

Before I get into Doctor Who today, a quick update on my floppy right arm: today was the first time in more than ten days that I didn't spend a good chunk of the day actively noticing my right arm socket. Sure, it's still weak and when I think about it it the muscles under my right shoulder blade feel knotted, but for the first time since June 24th it wasn't screaming at me all day. So I guess that's progress. I am going to keep on with the anti-inflammatories and rest, and hopefully it will keep improving.

As for Doctor Who, today was one of the ones this season that I categorize as "just fine". Not amazing, not anything I would ever specifically go out of my way to watch again, but also not an affront against humanity (that's coming tomorrow). So let's talk about it.

Mixed news on my floppy right arm today. On the positive side, I did do 50 push-ups, and it did feel stronger than the last time I attempted them a week ago. On the negative side, it still feels weak - stronger than it was, but weaker than I would like. Where my left arm feels properly seated, my right arm feels like a ball joint with a broken nylon bushing, where the joint is just not stable at all. That being the case, I am going to keep off of it for a while yet to let it continue to heal. If I haven't seen any real improvement by next weekend, then I suppose the next step is to see a specialist and get it x-rayed.

In other news, there was a new Doctor today and he was very grumpy and cross. So let's talk about that.

I Will Always Remember When the Doctor Was Me

I Will Always Remember When the Doctor Was Me

Today's viewing marks the eight hundredth episode of Doctor Who to be aired, as well as the end of the Eleventh Doctor era. Holy cow, I only have one Doctor left before I am done with this ridiculous project. In other news, my floppy right arm isn't nearly as floppy as it was. It feels like it is about 90% back up to speed. Tomorrow I will try easing back into some strength training to see what happens. I think I might double up on episodes tomorrow as well, since I have no rehearsal or other time commitment. I need to pick up two days if I want to finish on schedule (and I do want to finish on schedule.)

So let's talk about the End of Eleven before I move on to Twelve.

Fifty Years in Four Hundred and Ninety Four Days

Fifty Years in Four Hundred and Ninety Four Days

When I started this ridiculous project on February 20th of last year, I deliberately didn't calculate how long it would take. I guessed a little over a year, and it turns out to be more like a year and a half. Today, though, I hit a huge milestone. Today I watched the 50th Anniversary special, meaning that as of this morning I have watched a full fifty years of Doctor Who in four hundred and ninety four days. Wow. With only one Eleventh Doctor story left, I only have the Twelfth Doctor era left to go through. I just double-checked my count, and I must have missed something the last time I worked it out. I need to finish by Monday, August 6th because I have a work trip that begins on the 7th and I want to have a clean break. But I just counted it out,and if I miss no days and watch one episode per day I won't finish until August 8th. That means I have to double up on at least two days. It looks like Under the Lake / Before the Flood would be a good double fallin ...

The Pyramid at the End of the World

No spoilers, for my friends on the West Coast. Following directly on from last week's Extremis, the Monks come into forefront in the middle part of a three-parter. Stylistically very different than usual, but I liked it. The middle part of the season is definitely much stronger than the early bits, and I am liking it. I am going to miss those Attack Eyebrows when they are gone.
