So Boring They Take a Coffee Break Jun 27 2017 2nd Doctor Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot I just don't know what to say about the middle part of The Space Pirates. I know I spent an hour on the treadmill this morning, and watched two more reconstructed episodes. One presumes that something must have happened during those fifty minutes of viewing. I sweat a lot, and weighed within three pounds of my all-time lowest weight in this millennium, so that's nice, but other than that? Blah. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
The Final Recon Jun 26 2017 2nd Doctor Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot This morning I started on The Space Pirates, which is the last Doctor Who story with episodes that are completely missing. By extension, this means that it is the last Loose Canon reconstruction that I will be watching in this project. There are a couple other notable things about today's episodes, as well. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
There's Many a Slip 'Twixt the Cup and the Lip Jun 25 2017 2nd Doctor Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot Remember that moment in M. Night Shyamalan's Signs in which you find that an intelligent space faring race has staged an entire invasion upon a planet where 2/3 of the surface area is covered by an element that is toxic to them, and upon which the same element just spontaneously falls from the sky on a daily basis, but they decided to launch the attack anyway? Turns out Shyamalan was not the first to have an alien invasion foiled by water. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
There Are Seeds. They Cause Death. Jun 24 2017 2nd Doctor Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot Good news! The Doctor totally didn't die in a horrible rocket crash at the beginning of the third episode of The Seeds of Death. I was so worried, I thought maybe it was the end of the series. Fortunately, at the last moment the cliffhanger was resolved and the Doctor (along with Jamie and Zoe) landed safely on the moon. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
The Chances of Anything Coming From Mars are a Million to One Jun 23 2017 2nd Doctor Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot You know how I said I was having a fat day yesterday? Today I was three pounds lighter. Here is Ron's Weight Loss Tip: You have to weigh yourself every day to track the trend lines, but paying attention to the day-to-day weight will drive you insane. Speaking of insane, in The Seeds of Death in the late 21st century mankind has developed a matter transfer system called T-Mat, and has for some reason decided that since they have that one form of travel they don't need any others. That decision does not turn out well. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
When In Doubt, Pour Acid On Them Jun 22 2017 2nd Doctor Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot Ugh, I am having a fat day. I also slept too late and had to cut my treadmill time short instead of going the full 55 minutes. Those two things might possibly be related. The good news is that it is almost the weekend, and I will undoubtedly get lots of extra exercise on Saturday and Sunday like usual from walking around Disney World with my son visiting princesses. So that's ok. As for Doctor Who, I finished watching The Krotons this morning. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
Insert Salad Joke Here Jun 21 2017 2nd Doctor Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot I started watching The Krotons today, which is particularly notable as being the first story written by Robert Holmes, who would later go on to become the Script Editor for Doctor Who from 1975 - 1977 and who wrote more episodes of the classic series than any other person. I mean, no big deal or anything but he's the guy who created Gallifrey, The Master, Rassilon, Sarah Jane Smith, Romana, and the entire notion that Time Lords get twelve regenerations. He's kind of an important figure in the show's history. So here we are today with his very first story. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
Four-Month Checkin Jun 20 2017 2nd Doctor Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot Today marks exactly four months since I started this ridiculous project, and I am so grateful to have had you (my imaginary readers) along by my side for every step of the way. Speaking of steps, in that time I have taken a total of 775,660 steps on the treadmill for a total distance of 374.91 miles. Also during that time I have lost 33.28 lbs, which is an average of 1.96 lbs per week. I have long understood that the healthy rate of weight loss is about 1-2 lbs per week, and so I feel like I am right on target. Let's talk a bit more about that, plus about the end of The Invasion. Isobel is a Sociopath Jun 19 2017 2nd Doctor Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot This morning's viewing of episodes five and six of The Invasion culminated in one of the most iconic shots in the history of Doctor Who. After much skulking about in the sewer system, the Cybermen are finally fully revealed as they emerge onto the streets of London, including a group of them marching down a flight of steps with St. Paul's Cathedral in the background. If you were going to pick a single image to represent the Second Doctor's era, this would be the one. So much so that a few years ago, when my wife and I took a trip to Great Britain, there was a moment when we were walking around London and I suddenly noticed exactly where we were and I had to take a photo. Sure, I took lots of other touristy pictures, but that was the one moment that really spoke to me. But long before we get to that point, there are two episodes full of story that made me realize that Professor Watkins' daughter Isobel is truly a sociopath. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
The Cybermen Arrive Jun 18 2017 2nd Doctor Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart Jamie McCrimmon Zoe Heriot Keeping this one brief, because it's late in the day and I want to go to bed. Also, today's two episodes of The Invasion really just finish setting up the main story. Let's talk about that. Read more ...
